VILLARREAL, Spain -- Spanish police arrested the man who racially insulted Barcelona defender Dani Alves by throwing a banana at him, with reports on Wednesday claiming the perpetrator worked for Villarreal. Drew Stubbs Jersey . Police confirmed 26-year-old David Campayo Lleo was arrested, with Spanish media reporting he was fired from his role on the coaching staff of one of the clubs youth teams. Villarreal would not confirm nor deny the reports about Campayo Lleos role with the club when questioned about their authenticity by The Associated Press. Campayo Lleo faces from one to three years in prison if found guilty of charges related to racist provocation. Villarreal has already banned Campayo Lleo from the teams El Madrigal Stadium for life. The Spanish leagues disciplinary committee granted Villarreal extra days to present its handling of the incident after it was listed in the referees match report of Barcelonas 3-2 win at Villarreal on Sunday. Alves picked up the banana and took a bite, provoking a social media campaign against racism in support of the Brazilian player, who is black. Barcelona teammate Neymar was the first to post a picture of himself with a banana, leading to a flood of football players and figures, celebrities, and world politicians doing likewise. Campayo Lleos picture was posted on the Internet by Spanish media, with one picture from his Twitter account showing him in Villarreals kit alongside children from one of Villarreals youth teams. Alves had said he would like to shame Campayo Lleo by posting his photograph on the internet. Villarreal said president Fernando Roig would be meeting with the teams supporters groups to ensure such behaviour was not replicated after Alves called Spain "backward" and said "theres prejudice against foreigners because of race and colour." Alves has been subjected to racist taunts before, and black players Marcelo, Samuel Etoo, and Englands black players have also been on the receiving end of well-publicized racist behaviour by Spanish fans. In March, Villarreal was fined 4,000 euros ($5,500) after a spectator caused a game against Celta Vigo to be temporarily suspended by throwing a smoke bomb with tear gas-like effects onto the field. Kids outside the Coverciano complex were responsible for the chants, and Balotelli appeared visibly disturbed. The training session was open to media, and Balotelli could be heard saying as he ran by reporters, "Only in Rome and Florence are they that stupid." While most of the fans cheered for Balotelli, police approached the area where the chants came from and they quickly ended. Balotelli was born in Sicily to Ghanaian immigrants and brought up by an Italian foster family. He has faced racist chants throughout his professional career. "Its unbelievable that in 2014 we still hhave this form of racism," Balotellis fellow forward, Ciro Immobile, said. Jose Berrios Jersey. "Its not great for the nation. We represent Italy." Immobile, from the Naples area, noted how insulting anti-Naples chants have pervaded Serie A stadiums recently. "When I hear that it saddens me, because I have a lot of pride in my city," Immobile said. Balotelli was also the focus of much speculation on racist abuse before the 2012 European Championship, and UEFA placed spotters inside stadiums, resulting in fan behaviour by Spain and Croatia being sanctioned. FIFA claims it will have zero tolerance for racism at the World Cup but has not announced plans yet on how it will control behaviour inside stadiums.
