SAN FRANCISCO —

Facebook-owned photo-sharing service Instagram on Tuesday launched an application for capturing time-lapse videos using Apple mobile devices.

The Hyperlapse “app” was designed to let people easily make high-quality time-lapse videos even while moving around with a smartphone Chris Herndon Jets Jersey , according to Instagram.

Hyperlapse videos can be saved on mobile devices and shared on Instagram.

“From documenting your whole commute in seconds or the preparation of your dinner from start to finish to capturing an entire sunset as it unfolds, we’re thrilled about the creative possibilities Hyperlapse unlocks,” Instagram said in a blog post.

Hyperlapse applications were made available only for mobile devices powered by Apple software.

Market research firm eMarketer said in a report in March that nearly 35 million people in America accessed Instagram at least once each month as of the end of 2013, a jump of more than 30 percent from a year earlier.

And the report said nearly 25% of smartphone users in the United States will use Instagram at least once a month by the end of this year—bringing the total user base to more than 40 million.

Instagram in November began displaying ads as Facebook moved to start making money from the smartphone photo sharing service it bought in a billion-dollar deal in early 2012.

As Russia and Ukraine continue to disagree over natural gas pricing and shipments to Europe, Russia’s growing influence in the region is becoming very apparent. How will the Russia-Ukraine natural gas partnership affect Europe’s foreign and energy policies? What does Russia’s growing influence in the energy sector mean for the United States? During today’s OnPoint, Alexander Mirtchev, founder and president of Krull Corp. and a top international consultant on energy and oil markets, discusses the details of the Russia-Ukraine natural gas partnership and explains why Europe will continue to face shipment disruptions. Mirtchev also discusses Russia’s expanding influence in the energy sector and how this will affect the foreign policy decisions of European nations and the United States

Monica Trauzzi: Welcome to the show. I’m Monica Trauzzi. With us today is Alexander Mirtchev, founder and president of the Krull Corporation and a top international consultant on energy and oil markets. Alexander also serves as the senior economic adviser to the prime minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Alexander, thanks for coming on the show.

Alexander Mirtchev: It’s my pleasure.

Monica Trauzzi: Earlier this week we heard that Ukraine and Russia had finally reached an agreement with their European nations on resuming the supply of natural gas from Russia to Europe. Russia claims that Ukraine has essentially shut off the pipelines that would allow this gas to go to Europe. What’s the latest on where this situation stands and when we actually might see these pipelines reopening and natural gas going to Europe? What’s the situation at this point?

Alexander Mirtchev: I believe, first and foremost, it’s fascinating to see how this issue has been seen from the point of view of different countries in the region and you will see how they project their own political interests on the situation making it much more complex than it is.

New York, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Dressed in her Catch 22 team-logo tank top, Stacy Wu hit for a morning exercise on the lake of World Fair Marina in New York on Sunday, together with her dragon boat teammates.

For the past month, they have come for training twice or three times a week, preparing for a race less than one week away.

Stacy, a New York-based analyst, is the pacer in the team, sitting in the front row, observing the water conditions, and setting up the pace for the boat with her paddle.

As a Chinese American, she learned about the sport from the annual dragon boat festival in Flushing, a Chinese community in New York where she lives.

""I do really enjoy the cultural aspect of it,"" she said. ""I would like to get in touch with my Chinese side.""

This is the second year since Stacy joined Catch22, one of the most prominent dragon boat teams in the city. Born out of New York City's Flushing Bay in 2011, the team has been a breeding ground for dragon boat crews for years.

""Our teammates come from all over New York area, we meet them through our social media sites, through friends and family,"" David Woo, the coach and head of the team, told Xinhua.

Most of the paddlers are drawn to the team by its glorious competition record, not just Asian Americans. It now has nearly 40 members. In New York City, there are quite a few competitive teams like Catch22, along side many other amateur and corporate teams, who can be spotted almost every summer weekend on the lakes in New York City.

WELL-KEPT TRADITION, MUCH-LOVED SPORT

In Chinese legend, the dragon boat culture emerged some 2,500 years ago, to mark Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese patriotic poet, after he drowned himself in the Miluo River. To prevent fish and water dragons from eating his body, the locals beat their drums and splashed their paddles. This was the beginning of dragon boat racing .

Qu might never have imagined that his death would inspire a much-loved sport, not only in China, but also all across the world.

The tradition is well-kept in China, where dragon boat races, or the Dragon Boat Festival, are held in many cities on the fifth day of the fifth month of lunar calendar. Rules are also formulated to make the sport into regulated events.

In 1991, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York City took a step future by bringing it to New York's Hudson River, trying to pro.
